Police Minister Mark Ryan has condemned lewd comments made by Queensland Police chief superintendent Ray Rohweder as ‘deplorable’ and “not meeting the high standards expected of police officers.”
The second senior officer is Chief Superintendent Ray Rohweder.
Rohweder shouted out at a senior police conference: “Did she close her legs on you?” when the male MC at the conference jokingly told delegates a minor head cut was the result of a “rough promotional process” the inquiry was told.Credit:Carroll told the inquiry the reference implied a sex act performed by a male officer on a senior female officer.On Saturday, Ryan said Rohweder’s comments did not meet the high standards expected of police.
On Friday, he issued a statement saying he had addressed his comments with “fellow QPS members” and “does not wish to make any further comment about the matter”. Rohweder was in August appointed Chief Superintendent, after spending three years overseeing investigations in major organised crime as detective superintendent in North Queensland.
Before this, as an inspector, he spent seven years overseeing Queensland’s Road Policing Command, before his 23-year career as a police detective began in 1985.
