Deputies sweep Vista high school campus after report of student with gun; no weapon found [Breaking]
Sheriff’s deputies did a “security sweep” at Rancho Buena Vista High School early Monday after a student reported that another student had a gun on campus, officials said.
Sheriff’s officials were alerted around 7:25 a.m. about a student with a possible gun on campus, said sheriff’s Lt. Aaron Meleen. Deputies were sent to the campus on Longhorn Drive, where they conducted a search of classrooms and the school’s football stadium. The safety check was completed around 9:20 a.m. and no weapons were found, Meleen said.A school administrator told parents a small number of students left campus during the lockdown. At least some who stayed were “supervised in our stadium,” according to the email.
Several students were seen jumping the fence near the stadium and leaving the school, as nervous parents and others gathered on nearby street corners. Dani Velloso said her daughter was texting her from the floor of a darkened classroom, where she’d been herded along with several other students who were in a hallway when the lockdown was initiated.Moments later, a deputy stopped to inform parents that the lockdown had been lifted.
