A coronial inquest into the disappearance of Peter Claux, who went missing on a dog walk on the NSW far south coast, has found he likely died in thick vegetation in a national park a short distance from his car.

A deputy state coroner has found Peter Claux likely died in bushland near his parked car in a NSW national park more than two years ago.

The coronial inquest into the circumstances surrounding Peter Claux's disappearance heard the 86-year-old was last seen walking his dog, Buddy, on Tura Beach in the late afternoon on May 24, 2022. NSW Police began searching for Mr Claux on June 2, 2022 after a National Parks officer reported that his car had not moved in more than a week.

"Peter has most probably died within the first day, based on weather conditions, dense vegetation, health, and age," Mr O'Neil said.
