The owner of a chihuahua says he “feels sick” after his beloved pet was caught up in a stolen van joyride in Melbourne. The two-and-a-half-year-old dog was inside a hire van while the owners unloaded furniture in Bray St in South Yarra about 8.40pm on April 18. They then saw the van take off in just 10 seconds with the pet still trapped inside. The owners frantically called triple-0 and attempted to chase the car to retrieve Diesel, who has a neurological condition, but they were too late.
The van was rented through Uber and the built-in GPS tracked the car for just over a kilometre before it is believed the thieves disabled the system. Diesel’s owners are offering a cash reward for the safe return of the chihuahua as they fear for his health as he needs medication for his condition. “Please just give him back, give him to a vet ... we just want our dog back,” Renfrew said. Police are investigating and calling for anybody with information to come forward.
