The beaten-up, last-place Yankees got some good news Tuesday, when they reinstated Harrison Bader from the IL.

Bader will be active for Tuesday’s game against the Guardians in The Bronx, where they hope he will help ignite an offense that has been awful in the wake of injuries to Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Josh Donaldson. The Yankees acquired the center fielder from St. Louis at last year’s trade deadline for left-hander Jordan Montgomery.

At the time, Bader was dealing with plantar fasciitis and didn’t make his Yankees debut until September, but he became an unexpected force in the lineup during the postseason. He’s played seven minor league rehab games and went just 3-for-25, but the Yankees have liked the way he’s looked at the plate — and are in dire need of help,

To make room for the 28-year-old Bader on the roster, Franchy Cordero was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.Cordero, a bright spot early on this season, is 1-for-28 with 13 strikeouts in his last 11 games. The rest of the outfield is mostly a mess, as in addition to the injuries to Judge and Stanton, Aaron Hicks has been nearly unplayable, Oswaldo Cabrera has been a disappointment after showing promise following a call-up last season and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who never played the outfield before this season, has struggled again offensively.Harrison Bader during a spring training game on March 15, 2023.
