It's been six weeks since a fire tore through the small town of Buchan in East Gippsland and despite promises of relief payments from all levels of government some farmers remain homeless and unemployed.
The Andrews Government said the state had made more than $260 million available and there were case workers being offered to help people work through what they may be entitled to.
The Federal Government also has a Disaster Recovery Allowance providing up to 13 weeks of income support to those who have lost income as a direct result of the bushfires. Charities, including the Red Cross, are providing assistance, but Mr McCole says government agencies are failing to keep up. "None of these agencies have come into town. They should have been setting up something in town where people could access them a lot better," he said.
