Detectives recommend charges against William Tyrrell's foster mother over 2014 disappearance

9News can reveal detectives handed a brief to the Director of Public Prosecutions this month with evidence against William's foster mother - who cannot be named - recommending she be charged with perverting the course of justice and interfering with a corpse.

Since his disappearance without a trace, there have been many theories over the past nine years with suspects targeted then cleared and an inquest put on hold.William would have turned 12 yesterday but was last seen alive at a home in Kendall in September 2014. Officers searched gardens, a dam and bushland a kilometre from the house - an area ravaged by fire and flood - but there was no trace of any remains.
