Tasmanian Senator Claire Chandler says discrimination complaints levelled against her for advocacy on women's sport and women's sex-based rights sets a “very worrying example for free speech in Australia”. The Tasmanian senator has been subject to a complaint under the Tasmania anti-discrimination act for her view surrounding the need for woman-only sports, and single sex toilets and change rooms.
“We have seen time and time again,” Ms Chandler told Sky news host Chris Kenny. “Australians being dragged in front of tribunals, commissions, these quasi-judicial bodies, on the basis that they have engaged in public debate, put forward their own views on the world, and instead of being able to exchange in a public debate in civilised form, they’re getting dragged along to a tribunal to answer for what they’ve said.

Victoria has seen ‘signs of hope’ yet policing ‘is now the real worry’ | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says the idea that Victorian police, who did nothing to stop BLM protests during the last lockdown, should go so hard with a zero tolerance attitude against anti-lockdown protesters now is 'surely repugnant to most people'. \n\nHe said while there are signs of hope in the state as they get the coronavirus infection rates down, “the real worry in Victoria at the moment is policing”. \n\n“What we saw yesterday in the Victoria Markets yesterday was just obscene”. \n\n“Remember this police force has got a lot wrong lately.\n\n“And we know they have to deal with a lot of idiots but the police have to be sensible, and show restraint.\n\n“The Victoria police have been hassling pregnant women sitting in parks, and they've handcuffed a pregnant woman at home, in an unnecessary, heavy handed implementation of draconian government rules.”\n\nMr Kenny also said it is “staggering that the Left of politics should be so deaf to the concerns about police bully tactics and the infringement of personal liberties”. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia

Australia is handing over its privacy 'in the name of security' | Sky News AustraliaPsychiatrist Dr Tanveer Ahmed says the notion of privacy has changed in Australia as, in the name of security, increasingly extreme forms of monitoring are being allowed. \n\n“Drones now patrol the city in Melbourne patrolling social distancing protocols,” Mr Ahmed said. \n\n“The Covid safe app monitors our movements.\n\n“Our internet behaviour already produces gigabytes of data for commercial use for the likes of our Silicon Valley overlords- Google, Facebook, Amazon etc.”\n\nMr Ahmed said Sydney has about 60 thousand surveillance cameras and was only a step away from incorporating facial recognition systems. \n\n“In the name of security, we've allowed all types of monitoring that civil liberty types are up in arms about,” he said. \n\n“Every new technological, legal, and cultural development raises concerns about the death of privacy. \n\n“No one wants us to be like China, but authoritarianism is on the march in even the places we consider bastions of freedom. \n\n“Privacy is central to liberty. \n\n“But arguably, privacy is also a privilege. \n\n“Do we really have a right to privacy and how do we draw up the limits?”\n\nImage: Getty

Daniel Andrews is an 'elected dictator, and nobody can control him' | Sky News AustraliaJim Penman, founder of Jim’s Group, says for Premier Daniel Andrews to claim that opening pet grooming services while keeping private lawn mowing companies closed has anything to do with health is 'garbage ... this is grubby, rotten politics.”\n\nVictorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Sunday pet grooming services would be able to operate, despite the fact that bars, restaurants, and private lawn mowing services could still not run.\n\n“What health expert in the world is going to say that taking your dog to a salon where you’ve got multiple people working is more safe than having it done at your own home privately,” Mr Penman told Sky News Paul Murray.\n\n“Absolutely ludicrous.\n\n“If there’s one explanation only, it’s basically a grubby a political deal with Andy Meddick of the Animal Welfare league who’s given the premier six months more of dictatorial power.\n\n“To claim this is anything to do with health is garbage, this is grubby, rotten politics.”\n\nPremier Daniel Andrews will not let private lawnmowers work, having declared them a non-essential service, he has however, been allowing council lawnmowers and gardeners to continue working.\n\n“He’s refused to give a justification, he’s refused to explain why council gardeners can work safely in groups, and our guys can’t work singularly doing the same job,” Mr Penman said. \n\n“This is not health, this is politics, this is nasty, grubby, power grabbing politics by a man who cares nothing for the health of his community.”\n\nMr Penman added that the $3 billion stimulus package given businesses by the government was a “sick joke”.\n\n“(Premier Daniel Andrew) throws us out of work, destroys our businesses for no reason, no reason at all, no benefit to the public health, tosses us a few dollars and we’re expected to say ‘oh thank you wonderful premier’,” he said. \n\n“This is absolutely obscene.\n\n“I can’t tell you how furious I am at what’s going on.\n\n“I cannot believe we’ve got this elected dictator, and

'Premier Palaszczuk, you are not the victim': Murray | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Paul Murray says Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Friday spoke like a bank teller who’s talking to a customer about a policy they can’t change, not like a premier who’s in charge of the entire executive power of the state of Queensland. \n\nQueensland resident Sarah Caisip, from the ACT, wasn't granted exemption from quarantine to attend her father's funeral in Queensland. \n\nPrime Minister Scott Morrison contacted the premier to seek an exemption out of hotel quarantine for the young woman who would otherwise miss out on her father’s funeral. \n\nThe Queensland premier, however, entered Queensland parliament later on Thursday and declared that she “will not be bullied nor will I be intimidated by the prime minister”. \n\nOn Friday, Ms Palaszczuk said “Let me make it very clear, I don’t make those decisions.”\n\nThe premier insisted the decision to forbid Sarah from attending her Father's funeral was made by Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young. \n\n“It’s rubbish – I love this garbage where 'I’m single handedly the most powerful person in the state, but I’m also a victim' – it’s rubbish,” Mr Murray said. \n\n“Premier, you’re not the victim.”\n\nImage: News Corp Australia
