AUSTIN, Texas — The community of Bexar County is asked to be cautious around deer in the area as the got news of a recent Chronic Wasting Disease case. Officials say a free-range white-tailed deer the city of Hollywood Park tested positive.
Officials aren’t aware of any cases where humans contracted CWD through eating venison. However, TPWD’s research suggests that this transmission to humans shouldn’t be entirely disregarded. So, it’s advised for hunters to test harvested cervid species for CWD and not eat the meat of infected animals.
