Jimmy Dimora has been many things over the years— Cuyahoga County commissioner, corrupt political powerbroker and federal inmate. Dimora is now trying his hand at another occupation from his prison cell: attorney.

Dimora and former attorney Philip Kushner parted ways after Kushner argued for Dimora’s original sentence to beDimora’s latest appeal takes aim at Judge Sara Lioi for rejecting Dimora’s attempt to show the jury that he disclosed many payments and favors— like sports tickets or meals— on his ethics disclosure statements.
Dimora also argued that a 2016 U.S. Supreme Court decision that narrowed the definition of “official acts” in public officials’ bribery cases should warrant a new trial, an argument that has already been struck down by Lioi and the appeals court.Dimora argued that Lioi, however, failed to properly determine if the new definition of official acts would have changed the jury’s decision on finding him guilty.
