Disney World is closing as Hurricane Ian bears down on Florida.
under a hurricane watch"until further notice" and a flood watch until Friday.
"We are monitoring weather conditions so we can make timely decisions for the safety of our cast and guests, including when it's safe for cast to return to the site and prepare for reopening," Disney said in a statement Tuesday. The brunt of Hurricane Ian is aimed at the Tampa Bay region, on the other side of the state from Orlando. Forecasters are fearful that high winds and storm surges may be deadly. Tampa Bay was last hit directly by a hurricane in 1921; today, the region is much more densely populated, with many residences at risk of being overwhelmed by floodwaters. More than 2.5 million Floridians have been ordered to evacuate.
