An investigation has been launched after 17 memorial plaques were allegedly stolen from a cemetery in northern New South Wales.

More than 10 memorial plaques have been allegedly stolen from a cemetery in northern New South Wales with police labelling the incident a “deeply disrespectful act”.

Tweed/Byron Police District Crime Manager, Acting Inspector Russell Ewing said the incident was deeply hurtful to families.
