Clayton Perry makes decision about re-election after DWI fallout
It’s been a hard fall for the lone conservative on City Council. He appeared likely to coast to a fourth term — that is, until Nov. 6. That’s when he allegedly downed 14 drinks at a North Side bar and then crashed his Jeep Wrangler Rubicon into a vehicle idling at the intersection of Jones Maltsberger and Redland roads.
“We just think this is the time for him to take care of himself and really preserve the integrity of the District 10 council seat,” former District 10 Councilman John Clamp told the Express-News said earlier this month. “We need to make sure that our representation for the community, the district, the constituents is at 100 percent.
“Councilman Perry and I did talk yesterday evening and I anticipate in the coming weeks some sort of announcement of support from Councilman Perry,” he said. Three people have filed to run for the District 10 seat so far: retired engineer Joel Solis, Madison Gutierrez and Margaret Sherwood.
