Down by 20, Jurian Dixon spurs Saints comeback, but it's not enough against powerhouse Sierra Canyon

Jurian Dixon was a second-half monster, bringing St. Augustine from 20 points down early in the third quarter to within three with 1:17 to play, but the rally stopped there as the Saints fell 80-74 to Chatsworth Sierra Canyon in a Southern California Regional Open Division quarterfinal.

“We rallied because we’re good,” said Saints coach Mike Haupt. “The guys fought and clawed. Never gave up. “Early on, I felt we let them do what they wanted physically. And it’s easy because they all look like men.The No. 6-seeded Saints trailed 50-30 early in the third quarter and by 11 at the end of the quarter. But the Saints were forced to foul and could get no closer.Derrius Carter-Hollinger added 15 for St. Augustine and Jaden Montingou finished with 11.

Amari Bailey led No. 3-seeded Sierra Canyon with 22 points. Shy Odom had 15 points and 12 rebounds, Isaiah Elohim added 15 points and Kijani Wright finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Bailey has signed with UCLA. Odom, the son of Lamar Odom, has signed with Howard. Wright has signed with USC.“After this performance, if anyone doesn’t think Jurian Dixon isn’t our section’s player of the year, can’t hang with these guys, they don’t know basketball,” Haupt said.
