Netball: The Sunshine Coast Lightning beat the Swifts while Vixens outgunned the Mavericks in Melbourne.
Courtney Bruce shocked the netball world when she left hometown team the West Coast Fever for the Sunshine Coast Lightning. Now she’s opened up on that difficult decision.Former Fever co-captain Courtney Bruce shocked the netball world when she signed with the Sunshine Coast Lightning for the 2024 Super Netball season.
“There were times over the last two years when I’d get in the car after training and I would just cry on my way home, and I’d cry on the way to training, and I kind of had no idea why,” she said. “Those accolades are fantastic and they’re really nice things, but the biggest thing that I want people to take away is that there is so much more that goes on you just seeing me for a 60 minute game of netball for 14 weeks of the year.”Bruce added that leaving her hometown team was the hardest thing she had ever done.
She continued: “I always said I would bleed green … and I had been so public about wanting to be a one-club player, so in that way, I guess I feel I was letting down the Fever community that looked after me and supported me since I was a young 16-year-old to a 30-year-old,” said Bruce.“Perth will always be home … I just hope that everyone would understand my reasons for leaving.
