In the case of a potential mass shooting, some trainers are now encouraging bystanders to run and potentially fight back against a gunman, instead of sheltering in place.

And barricading doors, he said, can create a lot of noise, thus alerting the gunman to an occupied classroom.Other analysts expressed concern that training can itself have negative psychological effects.
