can showcase positive fan behaviour in football.the game is reaching a “fork in the road” amid increasing financial success.are set to be the biggest women’s sporting event in European history.
“We’re going to come to that fork in the road where it’s ‘do you want to take the same financial model and end up in the same sort of environment as the men are?’ Where people are crushing each other to get into a European Championship final and destroying cities and things like that? She added: “I think we should embrace it [the reputation of the women’s game].
“Hopefully we get to a place where everyone’s behaviour stays like it is, people make the right decisions because they want to do things the right way. After a season which has been marred by an alarming rise in violent and anti-social fan behaviour, and continued discontent among many over ownership models, is there an opportunity for the women’s game to show how things can be done better?: “I’m proud of how the grassroots women’s game is [perceived], going out to games, players, coaches, they all feel in a safer environment than they do in the men’s game.
Attendances in the Women’s Super League have yet to take off, still averaging at a little over 1,000 despite the FA’s ambition to get it to 6,000. “There wasn’t any sort of professional pathway, there was no real investment in it from the clubs it just felt like [the attitude was] ‘you go and play on this pitch over here and leave us alone’.Investment from both UEFA and the English FA has increased significantly in recent years – the total prize money for the tournament is around £14million, double the amount on offer in 2017.
