The survey authors therefore set out to explore whether this environment had significantly changed the way in which doctors make end-of-life decisions. Their online survey received 231 responses:15 from foundation year 1 junior doctors Over half of the participants reported that they were more willing to impose DNACPR orders than they had been before the pandemic - 41.5% 'somewhat more', and 13% 'significantly more' willing.

"But what appears irreconcilable with GMC guidance is the increased focus on resource limitation, which saw the largest increase in vote share," they said. "For a significant proportion of clinicians, resource limitation continued to factor into clinical decision making even when pressures on NHS resources had returned to near-normal levels.
