Changes must be made to stop the “silencing” of doctors after the Lucy Letby case revealed the “dreadful consequences” of ignoring those who speak up, the head of the NHS’s whistleblowing scheme has said.the Lucy Letby case “has shown there can be dreadful consequences if people speak up, and they are not listened to or appropriate, timely, and proportionate action taken”.
Dr Chidgey-Clark said: “What is vitally important is that the matter which is being raised is investigated appropriately. The concern itself should be investigated – not the people raising it. “This case has shown there can be dreadful consequences if people speak up, and they are not listened to or appropriate, timely, and proportionate action taken.”
