Does it make sense for Mike Vrabel to go to Ohio State? TitanUp | Buckeyes
. Vrabel’s reputation seems to ascend with each passing season and Ohio State happens to be his beloved alma mater. Titans fans would be foolish to immediately dispute the possibility.
Job security also comes into question. Typically speaking, overseeing a dominant program such as Ohio State provides more cushion than the stresses of the NFL. Vrabel is a Coach of the Year winner in Tennessee, recently signed an extension, and appears locked into Tennessee’s head coaching gig for as long as his heart desires. But humility arrives quickly in the NFL. And with an aging roster in Tennessee, things could flip.
The Titans also possess advantages. Vrabel is an NFL coach through and through. Vrabel often refers to college football as the league’s “farm system.” He clearly views college football as a step below the professional ranks. It’s worth acknowledging Vrabel swiftly pounced on an opportunity to depart Ohio State for an NFL position coach gig . Vrabel worked his way up the ladder to become Tennessee’s head coach.
Vrabel is 48-28 as Tennessee’s head coach. He has never experienced a losing season since taking over the Titans in 2018. Vrabel and the Titans are closing in on their third consecutive AFC South division title, meaning Nashville will host a postseason contest for the third consecutive season under Vrabel’s tutelage.
