AFL: Hawks coach Sam Mitchell isn't focusing on facing his old mentor when his side face Alastair Clarkson and the Kangaroos ahead of their must-win clash.
A pay dispute between Tasmania n electrical workers and TasNetworks could throw tomorrow’s Hawthorn v North Melbourne fixture at York Park into disarray, with just over 24 hours to go before the scheduled first bounce in Launceston. Chris Rowbottom , uncertainty now surrounds the fixture due to an ongoing pay dispute between the two aforementioned parties, which could force the AFL to make a “last resort” change of venue – or at the very least, an earlier start time.
And given the recent history of outages in the area, there is a genuine risk that the lights could fail at any time, and therefore leave a result from the match in limbo. With the clash supposed to start at 4:35pm local time, the Hawks and Kangaroos match is scheduled to be the latest first bounce time in over six years that UTAS Stadium.
“Workers are striking because they want pay parity with their mainland counterparts; they believe they’re being paid 30 per cent less than what people doing the equivalent job on the mainland are paid,” Morris told“Part of the strike, is when something goes wrong – like a power outage in Launceston – they’re refusing to fix it …Hawthorn v North Melbourne is a twilight game; if a light goes out, then no one will be there to fix it.
