Don Cheadle's upcoming Marvel Studios show Armor Wars receives a major update, revealing filming begins this fall. Since taking over the role of James 'Rhodey' Rhodes in Iron Man 2, Cheadle has become a key player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is only in Phase 4, however, that Marvel Studios is giving Iron Man's friend War Machine his own project.
While Marvel Studios has quickly made its way through a long list of Disney+ shows, Armor Wars has taken a bit longer than expected. It was originally expected that Cheadle would report to set to begin filming in 2021. This plan changed as Marvel searched for a writer, leading them to hire Yassir Lester in the fall of last year. Lester previously worked with Cheadle on Showtime's Black Monday.
The confirmation that Armor Wars is finally on the verge of beginning filming should bring a huge sigh of relief for those looking forward to the new War Machine-based TV show. There was a growing concern that the project was not making much progress given how quiet its development became. However, it appears that Marvel Studios is indeed forging ahead with Armor Wars.
This positive Armor Wars update also helps make it somewhat clearer when the show could be released. A fall 2022 start to production means that the series could be ready to debut on Disney+ in late 2023. Marvel Studios currently has a full slate of projects set for this year, while the collection of shows debuting in 2023 will include Loki season 2, Echo, and Ironheart, which are all currently filming.
