Former President Donald Trump has endorsed JD Vance in Ohio’s crowded Republican U.S. Senate primary, putting an end to speculation that has loomed large over the race for months.

He also alluded to Vance’s extensive past comments criticizing Trump in 2016, when Vance became well-known through his best-selling memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.” That included describing himself as a “never Trump guy” and saying he would consider voting for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016. Vance eventually supported Evan McMullin of Utah, a frequent Trump critic.
“I continue to be a proud supporter of President Trump and the America First agenda,” Mandel said. “I look forward to earning his endorsement in the general election and working with him to defeat Tim Ryan in November.” However, as Trump waited for more than a year to announce his support, Timken’s campaign appeared to slide,In a statement, Timken said she would also continue her campaign, but was disappointed by Trump’s decision while also lobbing an attack on Vance.
