The US President says in television interview that police departments 'do an incredible job' in America and the Confederate flag is something that people 'like' and is 'freedom of speech'.
According to The Washington Post, half of the people killed by police in the US are white, but black Americans die at a disproportionately high rate.
They account for less than 13 per cent of the US population, but they are more than twice as likely to be killed by law enforcement officers. Mr Trump defended America's police departments, saying they "do an incredible job in this country" as he looks to reinforce his "law and order" agenda ahead of"You can have a rogue, terrible cop, on occasion like you do in any industry, any business, in any profession," Mr Trump told reporters at the White House.Jeffery Robinson, of the American Civil Liberties Union, described Mr Trump's comments as an example of his "racism".
Asked if the flag should be "taken down," Mr Trump defended it as a symbol than many Americans "like".
