The Former President's lawyers argue that the subpoena is invalid, unenforceable and infringes his First Amendment rights.
In the suit lawyers argue Mr Trump retains immunity as a former president and that while presidents have voluntarily agreed to testify before congress in the past, none have been compelled to do so.
The 41-page suit also said the subpoena is a constitutional infringement of Mr Trump's right to free speech and labelled the investigation a"quasi-criminal inquest".The former president was due to appear for a deposition on November 14. In a letter to the panel attached to the lawsuit, Mr Trump said he"voluntarily directed a reasonable search for documents in his possession" but"found no documents responsive to this request."

Dr Jordan Peterson: Donald Trump subject to ‘more demonisation’ than any other Western leaderClinical psychologist Dr Jordan Peterson says former US president Donald Trump has been subject to more demonisation than any other political leader in the West that he can remember. Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan asked Dr Peterson whether Mr Trump could be suffering from particular types of anti-social conditions. 'I don't think that he's a psychopath,' Dr Peterson said. 'Now, he's definitely extroverted to a very great degree – and he's definitely disagreeable – and so that gives him some of the traits that are associated with those personality features.' Dr Peterson noted however, that Mr Trump is also 'conscientious' and 'hard-working' – which serves as a mitigating factor. 'It's very easy to demonise someone that you don't approve of,' he said.
