New downtown bar, restaurant, Double Standard from Barbaro team open in San Antonio’s Rand Building
The new restaurant and bar from San Antonio restaurateur Chad Carey’s Empty Stomach Group is laid out like the boardroom at a hunting lodge with stout communal tables flanking a marble-topped bar that runs the length of the room.
Double Standard offers a compelling mix of craft cocktails, $6 well drinks and shot-and-a-beer combinations from the bar. The kitchen’s turning out burgers, steak frites, roasted chicken, fresh oysters, shrimp cocktail and bar bites like tinned conservas, and Scotch eggs. Double Standard, an American tavern from San Antonio restaurateur Chad Carey’s Empty Stomach Group, opened this week at the Rand Building in downtown San Antonio, with a menu that includes steak frites and drinks like a basic Miller High Life and a not-so-basic Sherry Cobbler cocktail.Double Standard joins a stable of Empty Stomach restaurants in San Antonio that includes Barbaro, Hot Joy, Extra Fine and the wine bar Little Death.
Rosella at The Rand opened in 2017, the kind of swanky downtown coffee shop, cafe and bar that “Sex and the City” popularized at the turn of the millennium, according to Express-News dining critic Mike Sutter
