When John A. Macdonald Road came under criticism, I felt it was a slippery slope and could quickly spread to other fathers of our country.

Later, when the government failed to live up to their agreement and when our people were starving, the northwest resistance saw the looting of the town of Battleford and the killing of several Indian agents. He brought in the pass system, made a list of “rebellion bands,” who lost their treaty and political rights. He was also an advocate of peasant farming which restricted our people to hand tools. For this, he was appointed to the position of commissioner.
