The Greens are closing in on Labor in the seat of Northcote, and are now reconsidering their options after their candidate conceded last week. VictoriaVotes

Greens candidate Campbell Gome is winding back an earlier concession as the number of votes separating him from the incumbent Labor MP in the seat of Northcote dwindles.

The Victorian Electoral Commission confirmed on Monday the Northcote numbers had changed after the addition of absentee votes to the tally. In a federal election, a full recount is carried out if the margin of votes between the first and second candidates is less than 100 votes. Northcote MP Kat Theophanous with Daniel Andrews and his wife Catherine during the election campaign.A routine recheck is currently taking place in Northcote and all ballot papers are being reviewed and recounted.Monash University political scientist Dr Zareh Ghazarian said concessions were generally based on how candidates and parties read the results, but were not binding in any way.
