Drivers faced hours of delays yesterday - we'll update you throughout the morning
Traffic appears to be coping well on the approach to Download Festival - one day after heavy congestion caused misery for drivers. Many revellers on their way to the rock festival in Donnington Park near Castle DonningtonThe campsites and campervan field for the festival opened at 12noon on Wednesday , with the entertainment taking place between Thursday, June 8, and Sunday, June 11. Metallica, Bring Me the Horizon and Slipknot are all headlining the event.
Yesterday, congestion hit the northbound and southbound carriageways of the A453 approaching the roundabout for junction 24 of the M1, the A42 northbound and the M1 northbound between junction 23 to junction 24. National Highway East Midlands said: "Severe congestion remains on all approaches to the M1 J23a and J24 as a result of traffic heading towards Download Festival, delaying journey times by at least two hours. Allow plenty of time if heading to the festival or East Midlands Airport.
