Oz meets with invited voters at Antique Automobile Club of America Museum.
Staff for Dr. Mehmet Oz ready for his campaign appearance for U.S. Senate at the AACA Museum in Hershey, Pa, Mar 2, 2022. Mark Pynes | pennlive.comDr. Mehmet Oz, the heart surgeon-turned-daytime television personality who is now running for U.S. Senate, brought his campaign to Hershey Wednesday, with a town hall-style meeting at the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum.
A Cleveland-born son of Turkish immigrants, Oz launched his campaign late last year, saying he was driven to run by the government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. In an online statement, he wrote that the pandemic has been mishandled by “elites” who stifled dissenting opinions, “mandated” policies and “closed our parks, shuttered our schools, shut down our businesses and took away our freedom.
While fantastically successful in medicine and media, Oz’s hometown northjersey.com reported upon his entry into the race last fall that Oz has been dogged by accusations that he is a charlatan selling “quack treatments and cures in the interest of personal financial gain,” as a group of doctors wrote in 2015 in a letter calling for his firing from Columbia University’s medical school. He wasn’t fired.
