Dr Mosley says introducing one kind of leftover food in your diet could improve your overall digestive health and potentially protect you from certain cancers

It's not a rare occurrence to make more food than you can stomach but you should think twice before throwing your dinner in the rubbish.

Speaking on his podcast Just One Thing BBC Sounds podcast, Dr Michael Mosley explains the benefits of cooking certain foods that are high in carbohydrates and letting them cool down before cooking at a later date. Dr Mosley noted that while he enjoys eating pasta, it doesn't necessarily agree with him due to the fact that the carbohydrates, which turn into glucose when digested, raise his blood sugar.

"And resistant starch acts rather like fibre which means when I eat this reheated pasta, my blood sugars go up less." Dr Mosley highlights that many different foods can have their carbohydrates converted into resistant starch by simply "cooking, cooling, and reheating." Some other foods that can be converted include potatoes, rice, and bread.
