Drenched GWS Giants claim one-point win in single-figure scoreline | smhsport
In last season's opening match, Aimee Schmidt's season was immediately ended when she went down with a dislocated elbow in the opening minutes of the game.
The Giants wrestled with horrid conditions for their fourth season-opener at Blacktown International Sports Park, as 300mm of rain was predicted over the weekend in some parts of the state. The round-one win broke one of the Giants' hoodoos of never winning an opening game in the first three years of the AFLW.
"You don't really focus too much on all the trolling and stuff that happens on social media you kind of block that stuff out," Schmidt said. "We know we're good at this sport. We play a different style to the men and I think that's what where some people will find it different. But I think we go in hard and we give it a real good crack.
