He was arrested as part of an operation
A driver who crashed at a busy junction was found with drugs in the car. Officers received reports a vehicle had collided with a pavement at the junction of Chorlton Road and Stretford Road, in Hulme, at around 6.20pm on Saturday .
The driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drugs. Greater Manchester Police says officers then searched the car and discovered 'a quantity' of class A and class B drugs. Officers further arrested the man on suspicion of being in possession of controlled drugs. He was one of two arrests made by officers from the GMP Xcalibre Task Force working under Operation Tahara over the weekend.READ MORE: Woman, 25, killed in horror crash as man arrested
Police also detained a 20-year-old man under the stop search act on Sunday. After searching his backpack, he was formally arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs. GMP says Operation Tahara, in south Manchester and Trafford, is designed to prevent and reduce crime. A spokesperson for GMP added: "Whilst the officers utilise their police powers to stop search; seize illegal objects; and arrest suspects, they also prioritise diverting young people away from anti-social behaviour and crime through engagement and referrals to specialist partner agencies and services, who can offer opportunities to help them fulfil their positive potential.
