The three-year-old girl was struck by a car while playing with her brother in the front yard of their Normanby Rd home in Auburn about 2pm on Tuesday.

That is when Sandip Adhikari, 27, who lives in a granny flat at the back of the property, allegedly pulled into the driveway and struck the girl with his car. Adhikari told reporters outside Burwood Local Court on Wednesday that he is “very sorry to the family”.

“This is a very, very sad case. He is very, very stressed, and worried about the family and worried about their welfare,” his lawyer said.
“He has asked me to relay his deep sadness to the whole family who have lost a beautiful young child. ”“At this stage his whole focus is around the family of the deceased,” Adhikari’s lawyer said. Friends of the little girl’s grieving family flocked to the home to offer their support. One family friend, who preferred to remain anonymous, said the child was treasured as the only daughter in their friendship circle.
“She was the only girl in our friendship circle, we all have boys. Another family friend described her as a “very cute and pretty girl, three years old, always playing with my kids”.
