Motorist stopped on M8 in Glasgow is arrested and has vehicle seized by police

A driver who was stopped for speeding in Glasgow city centre overnight was found by officers to have a number of other issues to resolve. For after stopping the car speeding along the M8 for the motorist's night out in the city, police discovered that the driver allegedly had no licence and no insurance.

As part of the police process, the driver was given a drugs test - and officers reported that this came back positive for both cocaine and cannabis. Officers from Glasgow's road policing unit then seized the vehicle and arrested the motorist, who was taken into custody for processing. Road Policing Scotland said on Twitter: "#GlasgowRP stopped this driver speeding along the #M8 to their night out in the city centre earlier. Unfortunately for the driver they had No Licence No Insurance. Failed @DrugWipeUK for cocaine and cannabis Car seized. Arrested and processed."

People convicted of drug driving face up to six months in prison, a minimum one-year driving ban and an unlimited fine. The convictions are recorded on driving licences and last for 11 years.Cocaine is considered a Class A drug and possession of it can, if convicted, result in up to seven years in prison, an unlimited fine or both. Cannabis is a Class B drug with punishments for possession being up to five years in prison, an unlimited fine or both.
