Australia’s most obscure road rules have been revealed, with waving, splashing, driving too slow and U-turns featuring on the list of lesser-known offences.
While most drivers manage to navigate the road regulations without any hassle, some could be unwittingly breaking the rules out of blatant unawareness.
Those busted tailgating may incur and even steeper fine, with the offence carrying a $448 fine and three demerit points in NSW and a $303 fine with one demerit point in Victoria. In Queensland and Victoria, if a window is left open by more than 5cm, a driver could be hit with a penalty charge. It should only be used when warning other drivers that your vehicle is approaching, trying to get animals off the road, or as part of an antitheft or alcohol interlock device.Different states have different rules surrounding U-turns.
