Police have urged those travelling on New South Wales roads this Easter long weekend to drive extra carefully as the double demerit point period begins.

Though many Australians won’t start their mini-break until Friday, double demerits are also in place from Thursday 12:01am.Police are focused on reducing road fatalities and road trauma over the weekend. “We want everyone to enjoy the break, but please drive carefully, and more importantly return home to your loved ones safely.”
“Make no mistake that our police will be out and about this long weekend – including on major road networks and on local streets – to stop those doing the wrong thing.”Police issued a whopping 14,564 speeding fines and another 311 infringements were issued for mobile phone usage.The number of serious injuries has also increased.
