Drone surveillance is being enlisted at one of the nation’s biggest sporting events on the Gold Coast for the first time, in a move designed to boost competitor safety.

The high-tech aerial support will fan out above the Australian Surf Life Saving titles on the weekend, keeping a watchful eye on encroaching
