It is not known how much Jamie Luke Harwood drank that day. He refused to give a blood sample, saying: “I don’t do needles”.

A father-of-four was drunk and unlicensed when he took control of a boat on the Brisbane River and crashed it into a private jetty, killing his daughter-in-law.

The court heard Harwood, his son, his daughter-in-law and his granddaughter had gone out on a fishing trip on November 4, 2020. They had a carton of Victoria Bitter beer onboard. “However, police and others in attendance observed you being affected by some sort of intoxicating substance. The available evidence gathered establishes that you were intoxicated.”

“Her favourite place was Australia Zoo, a place she went to often and was fortunate enough to be there with her partner, brother and daughter just eight days before her death.”Rodger Herbert said Nicole always sat at the front of the boat facing backwards to keep an eye on her young daughter.
