Victoria's Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp says there are currently 45 fires burning across the state and "a band of dry lightening" caused a number of new flames to be ignited overnight.

Seven emergency warnings remain in place in Victoria, six of which have been issued for the East Gippsalnd region where four people are unaccounted for. Mr Crisp told Sky News crews are focused on prioritising the new fires, as there "is every chance they will run on a hot-northerly to join the fires in East Gippsland," where there "has been significant loss".
