From April 21-23, the team announced this week, the triple-A affiliate of the Houston AstrosPlayers will wear custom jerseys and caps that weekend, featuring a logo of a watermelon candy capped in a flame of chamoy and chili powder. The weekend will also feature music and giveaways for the first 2,000 fans to arrive at Constellation Field.The team — which was formerly known as the Sugar Land Skeeters, and changed its name in 2022 — is partnering with H-E-B on the program.
“H-E-B is proud to partner with the Space Cowboys as they transform into the Dulces de Sugar Land and highlight the Hispanic culture that is key to baseball as well as our city, state and nation.” said Armando Perez, executive vice president, H-E-B Houston, in a statement. The initiative is also a way for the Space Cowboys/Dulces to participate in Minor League Baseball's Copa de la Diversión initiative, announced with a four-team test in 2017. Between 2018 and 2021, MiLB says, more than 3.5 million fans have attended Copa games, which draw greater than average attendance.
