Sparks have flown in a heated press conference showdown between Jeff Horn and Michael Zerafa after the verbal barbs got very personal.

Zerafa and his camp went after Horn’s trainer Glenn Rushton in the face to face meeting — piling pressure on the veteran boxing mentor following his controversial decision not to throw in the towel during Zerafa’s stunning ninth round TKO victory in Bendigo in August.

Zerafa landed the shot of the press conference when caught in an argument with Rushton about the boxing IQ of Horn and his famous win over Manny Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium. Rushton, however, declared Horn has been a different fighter this training camp and expects his fighter to prove he is a “beast” on Wednesday night.“On Wednesday night you are going to see a completely different person in front of you. You are going to see a beast,” Rushton said.

Zerafa’s trainer Sam La Bruna said earlier this week he had kept a close eye on Zerafa since his friend Dwight Ritchie collapsed and died in a sparring session they had last month. “Michael has shown me that he’s been a true professional and he hasn’t faltered in any way so that’s been really good, we’ve been very happy with him,” La Bruna said.“I’m predicting round three, four or seven Michael will stop him,” La Bruna said.
