When asked how many deleted scenes there are from Dune, the film's editor played it coy and said, 'You're drawing me towards dangerous territory. I'll decline to answer that one.'
Dune editor Joe Walker remains cagey regarding how many scenes were cut from the final film. After David Lynch's Dune adaptation failed to resonate with audiences and critics in 1984, acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve took his own crack at adapting Frank Herbert's beloved 1965 novel. The film, which was released this past October, earned mostly positive reviews from both audiences and critics and performed well at the box office, earning nearly $394 million globally.
Dune, the book, had long been considered"unadaptable," especially considering the negative reception to Lynch's 1984 film. The story is so complex and the world so vast that capturing it all in the span of a two or three-hour film was long touted as an impossible task.
While Walker may not want to discuss Dune's deleted scenes, there are a great many movie lovers who treasure seeing the bits of the movie that didn't make the final cut. The contents of the Blu-ray and DVD release of Dune have already been confirmed to not feature any deleted scenes, however, something that puts the film in line with the home releases of Villeneuve's previous films, including Prisoners, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049, and Arrival.
