However, it warned that the economic environment remained “extremely challenging” amid the cost of living crisis. Group sales surged by 18 per cent to £1.55bn in the year to the start of July, surpassing pre-pandemic levels once again, while pre-tax profit jumped 32.4 per cent to £209m. An analyst at RBC Capital Markets added: “We note that our latest homewares pricing survey indicates Dunelm has improved its price competitiveness through the introduction of more entry-price ranges, which we think should help to support topline.”

Gross margins fell to 51.2 per cent from 51.6 per cent the year before and are expected to ease further to around 50 per cent in the current year, closer to its long-term average.
