A day after Craig Kimbrel lost his job as the Dodgers' closer, the team put Dustin May on the injured list because of a strained muscle in his lower back.
Before Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, right-hander Dustin May was put on the 15-day injured list because of low back tightness, a move that will prevent him from pitching in the regular season again and brings his postseason availability into question.
According to a person with knowledge of the situation who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly, May has a muscle strain in his back. Because he has to spend at least 15 days on the injured list, he won’t be eligible to return in the regular season . Still, May’s injury adds to the uncertainty facing the Dodgers pitching staff as the team tries to plan for the playoffs.St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols hit his 700th home run, joining Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth as the only players to reach the milestone.
