Treasurer Jim Chalmers says Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has an opportunity to “put his money where his mouth is” by voting for the Housing Australia Future Fund Labor proposed.
“If he cares about more social and affordable housing, he should vote for the Housing Australian Future Fund in the parliament,” Mr Chalmers said during a media conference on Friday.
“He’s got a rolled gold opportunity to put his money where his mouth is when it comes to housing, but as usual, he’s playing politics. “Today we’re talking about the sorts of tax breaks which are new in the budget to incentivise more housing – we’ve got a broad and ambitious policy agenda when it comes to housing affordability.”

Julie Collins takes aim at the Coalition over housing billHousing Minister Julie Collins has taken aim at the Liberal party for blocking the housing bill that would help address the need created by migration. “They were very quiet about housing when they were in government and they are now blocking the Housing Australia Future bill in the Senate, the bill that will provide 30,000 additional social and affordable rental homes,” Ms Collins said. 'You say we’re not doing enough when it to migration, the former Leader of the Opposition said we are doing too little too late, the numbers would be higher under you and ... you are trying to block the housing we are trying to provide. “After a decade of little action, we are trying to turn this around … we continue to invest in housing we’ve got homes on the ground today that you don’t support. “If you're serious about what’s going on when it comes to housing, if you're serious about those Australians doing it tough you would support the bill in the Senate.”
