Dutton has gained a significant advantage over Albanese in the preferred prime minister race, leading by 39 to 34 percent. This shift comes after the two leaders were tied in this crucial category at the end of last year. The survey, conducted by research company Resolve Strategic over the past week for this publication, indicates that Labor's primary vote remains stable at 27 percent, while the Coalition holds steady at 38 percent. The Greens' core support has increased from 12 to 13 percent, while Pauline Hanson's One Nation remains unchanged at 7 percent compared to a December survey. Support for independents has slightly decreased from 11 to 10 percent.Despite these consistent figures, the Coalition maintains its lead over Labor in two-party terms, with a margin of 51 to 49 percent when preferences are allocated according to the last election's voting patterns. However, the Coalition's lead widens to 52 to 48 percent when voters are asked about their preference allocation on actual ballot papers. Resolve director Jim Reed highlights that Dutton and the Coalition have solidified their leads on nearly all policy questions concerning who would best improve the country and support households. He notes that despite Albanese's initial campaign momentum, voters remain unconvinced of his leadership. Reed suggests that many Australians are not yet engaged in the election year and lack a clear sense of direction. He emphasizes that while a desire for change exists, the challenge for both the government and opposition lies in demonstrating their ability to deliver on that change
