Outer suburban voters and small business owners will be Peter Dutton’s target to rebuild the devastated Liberal vote as the Coalition shifts away from big business in a pitch to “forgotten people” and towards what it calls sensible action on climate change after years of division.
“To win the next election ... our policies are going to be targeted at those people who understand the Liberal Party is the best when it comes to economic management so that we can pay for our climate change investment and pay for education and policing, and our roads and infrastructure,” he said on Monday.
Anthony Albanese will head to Jakarta on Sunday for his first bilateral trip as Australia’s new prime minister, where he will meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo and discuss strengthening the bilateral relationship.Albanese had long-planned for his first overseas visit to be to Australia’s northern neighbour but the timing of the Quad leaders’ meeting last week meant he travelled to Japan first.
The Business Council of Australia chief executive Jennifer Westacott congratulated Dutton and Littleproud on winning party leaderships. Ley vowed to stand up for rural and regional Australians within the Liberals – she represents the regional NSW seat of Farrer – and also to be a voice for women.
