Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has delivered a heartfelt message to Bill Shorten after the veteran Labor Minister announced his retirement from politics after 17 years.
as Vice Chancellor of the University of Canberra in February 2025 and will not contest the next election.
"I might disagree with Bill on politics, but I think he’s a decent person and I wanted to wish him and Chloe the very best for the next phase of their life," Mr Dutton said. "Everyone will remember his efforts around Beaconsfield, and people have seen him as a local member, a hard-working local member, and someone who’s contributed to a number of governments."
"I congratulate Bill and his time in parliament, and we’ve been about to work with him in relation to the NDIS in recent months and look forward to paying tribute to him in the parliament as well."
