Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has hit back at claims he was briefed about bribery allegations against contractors while in charge of Home Affairs, saying he would be"very happy" to co-sign a referral of the matter to the National Anti Corruption Commission.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the allegations"very serious," while the Greens have called for a Royal Commission. However, he added the referral came with an important caveat, that the NACC should investigate the conduct of the Department of Home Affairs back to 2012. He suggested that successive governments, Labor and Liberal, had dealt with the same contractors over that period.
Mr Dutton suggested that successive governments, Labor and Liberal, had dealt with the same contractors since 2012, with Chis Bowen and Tony Burke also presiding over the Department during that period.
